The Sephora Cream Lip Stains are a “high coverage lip product with avocado oil for a soft and comfortable texture” according to the Sephora website and it couldn’t be a more accurate description. The formula is creamy and goes on very easily but in a matter of 30 seconds dries to a velvety matte, as matte as it gets. The lasting power makes it one of the best lip products I have tried, to the point that the shade Always Red is the one red lipstick I am sure I can wear through a whole day or evening. They do get slightly drying after a few hours, but the effect is mitigated if you use a good moisturizing balm underneath. The liquid lipsticks come in a classic plastic tube with a doe foot applicator which is easy to maneuver to apply the stains but I do like to use a lip brush or some concealer to make sure the edges are sharp.
There are 14 shades available in the US and 8 shades in Italy ranging from bright colors to more muted nudes, but only 2 dark colors. I wish there would be a dark red and maybe some more warm nudes, but overall there’s quite a few colors to choose from. I have acquired four shades thanks to a few friends living or traveling overseas with access to a Sephora.
I already raved about the shade 01 Always Red enough (here), and for good reason. It is a classic bright red with a cool undertone, it screams pinup to me. The other bright shade is 03 Strawberry Kissed, a beautiful pinky red, perfect for spring and summer. 13 Marvelous Mauve is the only nude shade I have and it is a mauve pink with some grey in it, very in “in” lately. It is said to be a dupe for Stila Patina liquid lipstick, but I don’t own it and couldn’t say. I feel it is the one that suits my coloring the least, but I will try to give it some love these coming colder months. Finally the dark berry shade is 14 Blackberry Sorbet. The truest color is the one swatched on my arm because by the time I got to swatching it on my lips, they were so sore from removing all the previous ones (did I already say they’re extremely long wearing?) that even concealer couldn’t cover the redness in my lips. It is a muted dark berry shade that doesn’t go on extremely smooth and needs some work to get a uniform layer. It is the one I am least impressed from.
Overall I am so happy with the Sephora Cream Lip Stains that I will continue collecting the other shades once I get to a Sephora (probably over Christmas holidays in Italy). They are creamy, matte and extremely long wearing, which is all I ask from a lipstick after all.
Have you tried these? What is your favorite liquid lipstick formulation?
