As a beauty addict, there are a few things that brighten my day: trying new products and receiving packages from online orders. So the day a GlossyBox February 2017 showed up on my doorstep was a very happy day indeed! Let’s check out what was in there!
Beauty subscription boxes cater to exactly these happy moments by delivering a box full of surprises to your doorstep each month for a monthly fee. There are many subscription boxes out there, mainly in two price ranges, the $10 boxes like Ipsy and Birchbox, and the $20 boxes like GlossyBox and BoxyCharm.
I have tried quite a few of them and have come to the conclusion that the $10 boxes are not worth my time and money mainly because they contain only sample size products or cheaper full size ones. Of course there are exceptions, but on average I only use one out of five products in those boxes, so I have cancelled all my previous subscriptions.
I was very excited to receive this month’s GlossyBox to show you, because this is one of the more luxurious boxes and I get a chance to see what it’s all about. GlossyBox is a subscription box that contains full size and deluxe sample sizes of makeup, skincare and haircare products. They are available in 10 countries including US, Canada, Germany, France, UK and more. This is not something to underestimate since it has been difficult to find good beauty boxes outside the US in the past and this is clearly changing.
Let’s get into the contents of the GlossyBox February 2017.
The GlossyBoxes for February come in a beautiful sturdy cardboard box with a pink peony floral pattern on the lid that is really pretty and perfect for the month of love. All boxes contain 3 must-haves and a selection of two other products: one makeup and one hair care.
Deluxe Sample 0.24 fl.oz. / 7 mL, Full size 1.7 fl. oz. for $50
The Estee Edit Pink Peony Overnight Water Pack is a water-based overnight mask, enriched with fruit and flower extracts (blueberry, wolfberry, melon, peony, pomegranate) and hyaluronic acid, that will hyddrate you skin while you sleep and you will “Wake up amazing” as is stated in the directions. The consistency is gel-like and it sinks in very quickly, leaving a tacky feeling on the skin. There is a slight fragrance that lingers even after it is dry. This overnight mask feels and smells very expensive, just what I expect from an Estee Edit product. I love overnight masks and I am very happy to have a good sized sample to try this high end skincare goodie. And if you decide to buy a full size of the Pink Peony mask, you also get a 15% discount on any online order on theesteeedit.com as well as an extra sample.
Full size 0.60 fl.oz. / 18mL for $30
Now I am super excited for this one! The Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat is a protein-rich nail treatment polish that strengthens, brightens, seals and protects your nails. You know I have brittle nail and tend to bit them, so i’m always looking for great treatments that “save” my nails. You apply it on clean nails and reapply during the week (when you remember). Then after the week, you remove everything and reapply one coat, etc, etc. It is formulated without parabens and sulfates, and the hydrolized keratin in the formula will strengthen the nails in the long run. The most obvious and immediate effect is that the nails immediately look more healthy and less yellow thanks to the slight pink tone. I have been wearing it for a week and really love how put-together my hands look with nothing else on, and it makes me feel like my nails are protected from drying out in daily life. You can find Perfect Formula at Sephora, Walmart and QVC.
Full size 1.0 fl.oz. / 30 mL for $26
This fragrance was formulated exclusively for GlossyBox to homage romance and femininity in this Valentine’s Day month box. It has a sophisticated and modern scent, one I associate to a woman who has everything figured out and is confident in herself. Now I am an ever-faithful user to my Lancome Miracle perfume, so I will need some more convincing before I start using it, but I like the idea I get when I smell it (if that makes sense).
Now here come the two products that vary box per box. For the makeup product, the options are between a creme blush, gel eyeliner, loose powder, mascara, lip definer or brow definer, all between $19 and $58 in value, full size, with the powder being the most value. For haircare we have a deluxe sample size of a Schwarzkopf Professional treatment or styling product.
Full size 0.07 oz / 2.0g for $35
This gel liner doesn’t only perform as a traditional gel liner should (it is opaque and smudgeproof), but it also contains ingredients that condition the eye area. These are Hydrolyzed Collagen for skin conditioning and elasticity, Swartia Japonica extract to stimulate hair growth and Panax Ginseng Root extract to promote skin metabolism. I really like the sound of a gel liner that also delivers skin benefits, even though to me it makes sense only if you wear only liner on your lids, and no other products (primer, eyeshadow). So I cannot say anything on that, but the gel liner is very creamy and easy to use, applied opaque and lasts well all day. Definitely a great score for this February GlossyBox.
Deluxe Sample 1.01 oz / 30mL. Full size
I am really excited to get this one among the haircare options, because I looove hair treatments. This is a deep nourishing mask for thick to normal damaged hair, which I have since I color my hair. This contains both deep nourishing ingredients as well as more superficial ones that give instant shine and a healthier look to the hair. You apply it on towel-dried hair and leave in 5-10 minutes before rinsing it out. I personally like to leave it on a bit longer, like during a sauna session before rinsing it off.
So these were the contents of the February GlossyBox: you get three full size and two deluxe samples, with a value of over $100. The GlossyBox subscription starts at $21 for a month-to-month subscription that you can cancel any time, or less if you take a multiple-month subscription. The value of this box is great and as i expected, it is NOT a collection of mini sizes that you can get for free at your department store, but it contains full size products and good deluxe samples of other products. I can definitely recommend it if you are looking for a new Beauty Subscription for yourself or a beauty addict friend.
