Welcome back to the blog! I am running behind on my accompanying blog posts for the videos that are going up twice a week on my Youtube channel, but here is the first of a trio. In my latest video I swatched and reviewed all 15 lipsticks that Makeup Geek so kindly sent me but since there are three different types of lipsticks, I will be going through them in three different posts. Today we are taking a look at some Makeup Geek Iconic Lipstick swatches.
The Makeup Geek Iconic lipsticks are their “classic” bullet lipsticks. They come in 20 shades and two different finishes: velvet matte and shine. The packaging of the lipsticks is incredibly sleek and elegant, with long gunmetal bullets with the shade clearly visible on the lid of each lipstick. This detail was expressly designed to be able to immediately pick your lipstick from your collection while it is standing up rather than upside down (like I’m doing now). In the same spirit, Makeup Geek also came out with a Deluxe Storage Box that is thought specifically to store your Iconic lipsticks and other slim lipsticks and it fits perfectly in your IKEA Alex Drawers!
I don’t want to repeat everything you already heard in the video in this post, so check that out for a review of each shade and lip swatches if you missed them.
The formula of this lipsticks is extremely soft and comfortable. Both the shine and the velvet matte Iconic lipsticks glide on the lips very easily (nothing like MAC Retro Mattes). The shine finish is really creamy and shiny (duh..) and make your lips look so juicy! You can see it both in the swatches as well as in the photo below, where I’m wearing Elegant, one of my favorites of the Iconic lipsticks I have.
The velvet matte Iconic lipsticks are a very comfortable and smooth formula that does not dry out your lips, and still provides some slip throughout the day. The lasting power is good, going for the 4-5 hours, which is excellent when you think it is a classic bullet lipstick. Be aware that these lipsticks will stain your lips! Check out the video to have a laugh with me about it hihi.
My two favorites are Elegant (shine) and Lively (matte), but Rare also has a great formula if that’s a color for you. I found Naive to be a bit sheer and too light for my skin tone, whereas Risque is a gorgeous wine color that unfortunately is patchy so I wouldn’t recommend those. From the other shade I do not own, the one that speaks to me the most is Saucy, a matte warm brick red, perfect for those of you who are deep autumn like me.
The Makeup Geek Iconic lipsticks retail for $15 and contain 2 grams of product. You can find these on the Makeup Geek website only for now, but we can hope they will be easily available internationally through BeautyBay soon.
What do you think of these? Did you eye something you like?
Down below you can find the official swatches from the Makeup Geek presentation video of all the other shades in the line 🙂
