Skincare is the first and most important step to have great skin, looking glowy and healthy and clear. If you find the products that work for your skin type, you can skip those heavy full-coverage foundations that look cakey and clog your skin. Part of a good skincare routine is a mask, to deep treat the skin with whatever it needs depending on your skin type. I have combination skin with sensitive (almost rosaceous) cheeks and an oily t-zone so will target with different products the different issues I face.
My favorite masks for oily skin are clay masks and I used 3 of this type at the moment. The clay is generally infused with minerals and oils to obtain a mask that will draw out all the impurities from you pores while it is drying (because of the porous clay) and at the same time hydrate and nourish the skin (the oils).
The first one I ever used, on suggestion of a friend, is the De Tuinen Green Clay Mask with addition of tea tree oil and lavender. You leave this thick mask on for 15 minutes and really get the feeling and the looks of squeaky clean skin once it’s done its magic. I used to apply it all over the face, but, although it is not drying at all, I felt it was too strong for my sensitive areas and now I use it only on the t-zone. Love it and have repurchased it several times, it is my favorite to use in sauna.
Another similar but more gentle one is The Body Shop Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask which I got as a sample in a goodie bag (here) and really enjoyed it. It contains 3 types of clay (kaolin, heilmor and bentolite) to pull out impurities from your skin and absorb oil and has added minerals that help cleanse and revitalise the skin. This works the same as the previous mask but it definitely feels less harsh and more nourishing, without leaving and greasiness on the skin, and I can use it on the whole face. When all my other masks are over I think I’ll purchase a full size of this one.
Next is a multitasker product, the Blue Corn 3-in-1 Deep Cleansing Mask by The Body Shop. This is a cleanser, scrub and mask for normal to oily skin that you apply on wet skin, let sit for 10 to 15 minutes and then massage in the skin to exfoliate before rinsing out. Contains kaolin clay to draw out impurities, moisturising corn oil and bergamot, geranium and ylang ylang oils to nourish and blue corn powder to exfoliate. I find this a very convenient product especially for those of you who have little time to go through all the steps separately or like me forget the scrub for weeks (sigh, thanks god for exfoliating toners btw). I love to use this after I sport, I shower and pop this and a hair mask on before taking a 15 minute sauna. When I get out the mask has done its wonders, I massage it in and rinse under the shower. Great product for girls on the go. For those of you with normal to dry skin there is a similar product in the Honey and Oat line.

Finally I have a mask that addresses my sensitive and dehydrated cheeks and that is The Body Shop Vitamin E Sink-in Moisture Mask. This is an intense moisture treatment with antioxidant protection, meant for all skin types and will restore the natural moisture balance of the skin and leave the skin soft and plump, helping with the fine lines due to dehydration. It contains a number of nourishing oils among which rice, cotton seed, wheat germ oil and soybean oil and of course vitamin E. I love the gel-like texture and after letting it sit for 10 minutes you can immediately feel the effect on the skin. A true savior I tell you!
These are the masks I use to keep my skin as happy and clean as possible, a clay mask once a week and the hydrating mask one or two times a week.
