Winter Drugstore Foundation Rotation for Combination/Oily Skin

winter foundation rotation combination oily skin
Happy Monday beauties! This winter I had quite a hard time finding a good foundation that would match my paling skin tone. This was mainly due to the fact that I had decided to stop self tanning and my skin was whiter than ever and of a difficult neutral undertone. This led me to trying many foundations to look for the perfect color and the perfect formula. Let’s see those that made the cut and have been on rotation in the last month.

I will start by saying that picking the right color foundation alone at the drugstore with those hideous lights and not natural light outside thanks to gloomy days, is a struggle. The first pick for the colder season comes as no surprise since it has been featured in my 2014 Makeup Favorites: it’s the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation. I used the shade 56 when I went out in the evenings this summer and I absolutely adore the formula, so I picked up the shade 54 Beige expecting it to match me in winter as well, unfortunately that wasn’t so, and this shade was still slightly too dark for my mozzarella skin. Don;t get me wrong, I love the formula though! It gives medium coverage, is very lightweight and it smells divine. The formula isn’t targeted for oily skins but I find that set with powder, this foundation lasts well and doesn’t make me shine any more than other foundations do. I really highly recommend it for any skin type.
The right shade came along with the new Kiko Unlimited Foundation in Warm beige 30. The perfect warm undertone and light enough. This foundation was released in autumn 2014 as a “long lasting liquid foundation for perfect makeup, all day long, SPF 15”.  I have a love-hate relationship with this one because some days it applies wonderfully and others it settles in my pores and looks very fake. I still haven’t pin pointed the crucial factor for the perfect application, but when it looks good, this base is great! It is very fluid and sets to a powder finish which makes it optimal for us oilier skin girls and a bit less for drier skin types. The lasting power is great and as I said, the color is a perfect match.
Finally the newcomer is the L’Oréal Infallible 24H Foundation in the shade 200 Golden Sand. I expected some kind of heavier formula with this one, due to the extreme hold claims, but although a bit thicker than the other two, it is very comfortable on the skin and doesn’t look like there’s a mask of foundation on the skin. Of course it doesn’t last 24 hours, more like a good 6 hours and with the help of a good powder it does a good job at keeping me matte. The finish of the foundation alone is velvety and doesn’t feel drying at all. It also has SPF 18 and a bit of a perfumy-smell which might bother some, not me particularly. A good one as well.
All three foundations come in sleek glass bottles with a pump (halleluja!!! yes, I’m talking to you Revlon Colorstay), which makes applying and dosing the product very easy. I usually use one pump directly on my Real Techniques Buffing Brush and then dot it around my face before buffing it in. I use these three foundations on rotation every day, without primer, and I’m quite happy the results with all of them. As a bonus, they’re all below 15€ in price and since you can get them at the drugstore, they’re often on offer, up to 50% off!
Have you tried any of these before? What is your go to foundation?
