Welcome back to Skincare Monday!
It’s been a long time since I talked about my skin and my favorite products (here) and lots have changed since so I thought an update was due! If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you know I’ve been on a major fitness and health kick for the past 3 months and made some pretty big changes in my diet, mainly increasing dramatically the amount of vegetables I eat with each meal (I talked about is more here). Of course this affected my body but a very welcome side effect has been a change in my skin!
I have always had combination-oily skin and suffered from pretty bad hormonal breakouts on my chin that would never go away. I dealt with these issues by using targeting products, mainly the La Roche Posay Effaclar line which kept things under control but I would still have bumps regularly no matter what. By switching to a cleaner and greener diet these breakouts just disappeared and my skin has been much less oily. My skin has been looking so healthy and balanced that I haven’t been using any foundation on a daily basis, barely any concealer (mainly under the eyes, thank you dark circles) and powder only to set the concealer but not to mattify because there is really no need anymore. I am so happy and impressed by this change!
As my skin transitioned towards a more normal and balanced state, I gradually abandoned the acne-targeted products and moved towards more hydrating products. But this will be a whole different post with an updated skincare routine. Today I’d like to share some skincare empties from the last period. They’re not many because I worked hard to finish up products before moving in February (see those empties here), let’s get into them!
Nivea Dry Confidence deodorant: my one and only deodorant, works well and I keep repurchasing it because I think I don’t smell like me when I try another version. Do you ever have that?
L’Oreal Youth Code Serum: I love this serum and wrote a whole post comparing it to its high end counterpart, the Lancome Genefique serum here. I used this a lot last year as a daytime serum and then let it sit for a while because I had switched to a purifying serum for a while, but with my skin changing, I went back to it and loved it all over again. I would repurchase it if only I could find it in a store, it seems like it disappeared from the shelves. Sigh.
The Body Shop Nutriganics Smoothing Serum: another nice daytime serum the cools and hydrates the skin, sinks in immediately and is very lightweight. Enjoyed using it but wasn’t blown away, so I am now going to try something new.
La Roche Posay Effaclar Micro-exfoliating pore refining toner: this was my holy grail toner to battle breakouts and oily skin. It has been a favorite for a long time, however I haven’t used this for a while because it feels a bit to harsh on my skin now. Highly recommended for oily-acne skin thanks to the salicylic acid in it.
The Body Shop Drops of Youth Eye Concentrate: a nice soothing eye cream, this is one of the latest releases from The Body Shop. It is probably not finished because after only a few weeks after purchasing this, the dispenser roller-ball broke off and the spring is damaged as well, so I can’t get any product out anymore. Sigh. I wouldn’t recommend it just for the packaging, the formula was nice but a bit too lightweight for my liking.
