New Makeup Geek Foiled eyeshadows for Fall 2016 – comparison swatches

I recently gave you a first look into the new Makeup Geek eyeshadows that launched for Fall 2016 in this post here. Since there are a total of 18 new shades, I decided to show you the comparisons in two separate posts. Let’s start with the new Makeup Geek foiled eyeshadows.

Rather than a specific Fall-themed collection, this is an expansion of the current foiled eyeshadow line. All the new Makeup Geek foiled eyeshadow shades are unique and different from anything existent from the brand. Nevertheless, I think a comparison of each shade with similar ones in my collection could help you get an idea whether you need them or not. A small sad note is that my collection is quite a bit smaller after moving overseas, but I hope you get a good idea of the shades.

Updating the stash #2: new Makeup Geek eyeshadow swatches

It is no secret that Makeup Geek is my favorite eyeshadow brand, si it will come as now shock that there is another update post. Beauty Bay had a big sale some time ago and I picked up some more shadows on the way. I was initially quite weary of the foiled eyeshadows because of the rumors that they creased, but I finally was won over by the incredible pigmentation and color payoff so I have quite a few of them here. As usual I will give the official description and a mini review for every shade. If you want to see all my other Makeup geek eyeshadows, check out the previous posts here and here.

Nabla Blossom Blush and Shade & Glow swatches and review

Welcome back! Ok, maybe I should welcome myself back to the blog. It is a really busy time, with work, the gym, makeup, calligraphy, personal life all trying to compete in a 24 hour day. Somehow the blog has been suffering for it and I apologize for it. Anyhow, I’m back for another makeup stash post and today we’re talking about the Blossom Blush and Shade and Glow lines the Nabla Cosmetics released this summer. The addition of six blushes, three contour and three highlight powders to their makeup line was a big extension that got everyone very excited. For those unfamiliar with the brand, Nabla Cosmetics makes some of my favorite eyeshadows (review and swatches here). Let’s take a look at these beauties.

MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick Oh Lady review, swatch and all day wear test

mac retro matte liquid lipstick oh lady

You might have noticed a week (or two?) of silence on this blog, but now I’m back! I finally got my doctorate and am now officially an unemployed doctor of philosophy. So now my days will be spent job seeking and of course blogging!

Better late than never they say, so MAC released their own liquid lipstick line last month and I finally get around to talking about them. The expectations were high, the colour range wide and interesting, so I was (almost) first in line to go check them out in store when they released. I ahd watched all the swatches and reviews on Youtube and set my heart on Oh Lady. Unfortunately I wasn’t fast enough to catch the color I desired, but I managed to order it online the next day.

L’Oreal Collection Exclusive La Vie en Rose: Pink Lipstick for Free a Girl

After the Collection Exclusive Nudes and Pure Reds, L’Oréal has released a new limited edition called La Vie en Rose. It is another collection of lipsticks and nail polishes associated with famous women of different skin and hair colors, meaning that there is a perfect pink shade for everyone out there. As I have loved and keep using many of the previous Exclusive lipsticks (you can find reviews and looks here, here and here), I was very excited to try the new line. To add to this, purchase of these lipsticks in The Netherlands in the month of October will support the Free a Girl organization, which fights to free young girls all over the world from forced prostitution and helping them towards a better life of their own choice. A great cause to promote in this pink October. But let’s take a look at the collection. There are 8 total shades but only four have been released in The Netherlands and I picked up two of them: Blake’s and J.Lo’s Soft Rose.

Blake’s Soft pink is a bright coral that stole my heart in the bullet but then fell short in application. There is no sign of the pigmented matte formula that characterized the Pure Red collection and that I loved so much. This lipstick goes on quite sheer and becomes streaky when I tried to build it up. Such a shame of this gorgeous color.

J.Lo’s pink has definitely a better formula and the color is a beautiful deep berry. To be honest I was hoping in a darker color just from looking at the tube, but I like this tone as well and it definitely something that wasn’t in my collection.
The other two available colors were Doutzend’s Soft Rose, a bright barbie pink and Julianne’s, a very light pink, both not very suitable for my skin tone so I didn’t pick them up, but if you’re interested, check out Vera Camilla’s swatches here.

The overall impression of the lipsticks is that they are quite sheer and creamy, with a satin finish and are very comfortable on the lips. I am disappointed by the pigmentation because I had high expectations but I am sure I will get a lot of use from J.Lo’s pink nonetheless.

October 11th is the International Day of the Girl Child and in collaboration with Free a Girl, L’Oréal has an initiative to raise awareness through the hashtag #laatjelippenspreken (let your lips speak). Post a selfie with your pink lips on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram to show your support! I know I will for sure!

Italian summer haul part 1: NABLA eyeshadows

Good morning beauties!
I just came back from holidays and can’t wait to share all the bits and pieces I got in Italy!
First things first, I spent an amazing 2 weeks showing my better half the city I grew up in and all the things that make it special to me and let me tell you, all is even more special when you rediscover your hometown as a tourist! We weren’t blessed with the best of weather all the time but still enjoyed every minute of it! We stayed at my parent’s house and were utterly spoiled by amazing lunch and dinners from my mom. No use in saying I came back with a few kilos too many but after all who wants to be on a diet while on holiday in Italy!? I don’t! So amazing food, beautiful places, lots of love from those who mean the most to me, the perfect holiday!
Of course while I was there I made sure to pick up some beauty related bits that I cannot get in The Netherlands and got to the check in at the airport on the way back terrorized I might have to leave something behind (which didn’t happen hihi)!
I seized the moment and had made an order over at Nabla Cosmetics for some of their new eyeshadows and them delivered at my parents’ to save on shipping costs.
